This story is about Jim's first day at work at William Doxford & Sons shipyard in Sunderland.

loved your film my father was in swans for 40 years until thatcher finished it all off.
your film connected me to him as he wouldn't talk about his working life in heavy industry as he hated it so much and he stopped me going into the yards.

Thats great I also started at the Sunderland Forge in 1944, at 15years Prior to the start of Apprenticeship. having been a buthchers boy from 14 when I. left Stansfield st School,1943.
The inside of the factory was a hard place to work 7.30 am to 5.0pm 2 nights overtime to 9.30,and 3nights night school.
