Juliet, Daughter of Richard H. Fox of Surrey

1931 (d)

Lambart, Alfred J. (RA) (1902 – 1970)

The informality of Juliet Fox's pose was intended to give a modern quality to a glamorous portrait. Rosy colours from the firelight and the fabric of the armchair provide a warm contrast to the green of her smart dress. The high viewpoint of the picture was popular with many artists in the 1920s and '30s. Alfred Lambart was born in Darlington, but was living in London when he painted this picture. He also designed railway posters.
