Newcastle upon Tyne from the East

1898

Lund, Niels Moeller (1863 - 1916)

This smoky night-time view from the Byker area shows the extensive industrial development of Newcastle and Gateshead. The High Level Bridge is visible in the distance. Red roofs in the foreground bring colour to the scene, and sun breaking through clouds brightens distant buildings. The picture was painted on one of the long trips that Niels Lund made to the North East after moving to London from Newcastle.
