The experimental steam turbine-driven vessel 'Turbinia'. She was designed by Charles Parsons to show the world that the steam turbine could be used to power ships. She was built at Wallsend, on the River Tyne in 1894 but it was not until 1897 that she reached her maximum, and world record, speed of 34.
