Video transcript

Brogues, t bars, cone heels, Louis heels, patents, Oxfords, Derbys, skyscrapers.

Shoes can tell you a lot about somebody. My first pair of shoes were a set of burgundy patent t-bars identical to my twin sister Amy’s black ones. When we were at school the only way the teachers could tell us apart was our shoes. One day Amy and I tried to beat the system so we swapped shoes. ‘Ha ha!’ we thought ‘they’ll never know the difference now’. Unfortunately for us our dastardly scheme was undone by a few sly giggles.

As I grow older I begin to wonder. Am I half of a pair? Or am I one set of two pairs? Am I half of a whole? Will I always be defined by my twin? Will I always be half of a pair? Will I ever be defined as an individual? Am I identical or am I opposite? Or will I become a Cinderella slipper? Alone, waiting to be picked up. Will I find a new shoe to partner my own? Both my sister and I have found our shoes sitting next to new shoes but are we still part of the original pair? Are we now two pairs of shoes similar but not quite the same?

Our shoes have taken us in different directions, we have moved apart. But is there still time for us to come back together? All I know is that the burgundy and black patent t bars still sit side by side safely still together.
