When my best friend Louise asked me to be maid of honour at her wedding it was a
special moment, but it was also when I realised that men and weddings don't mix.
My partner Ronnie twisted his face every time the wedding was mentioned, Louise's
nephew didn't want to wear his suit, and her dad was having trouble with his father of
the bride speech. Then her uncles said they might not come because the wedding
clashed with the Sunderland/Newcastle game.
Finally the day of the wedding arrived and I was too busy to worry about Ronnie. It was
only after the service that I looked back down the aisle to find him, and saw he wasn't
there. He had baled out on me and I was really upset. What was it about men and
weddings!
Later on after the photographs I asked my mam, "What happened to Ronnie?" She
said, "nothing, he's in the bar!" I laughed in relief - typical man! When we met up he said
I looked beautiful and he was very proud of me. He had just been taking photos around
the castle.
The men continued to surprise me that day. All the uncles showed up and no-one
mentioned the football once. Louise's dad gave a really moving speech and her nephew
never moaned about wearing his suit. I also got to dance with my dad which was very
special to me.
Later on I found Ronnie's photos on the camera which were hilarious. They included a
corridor of scary marble heads, a golden buddha, a woven tapestry and a roman god
carved on the ceiling. An alternative view of a wedding seen through a mans eyes!
I now have a new wedding philosophy - men and weddings can mix - just let them do
their own thing and they may even surprise you!
This story is brilliant ! men do come through when it really matters haha Posted on 14/02/2010 at 04:34:29
