Video transcript

One day at college I found out that I could volunteer at Beamish Museum. I filled the form in and sent it off. I waited for a few days and I got a letter saying I had an interview. I came in and had the interview. I waited for a while and got another letter saying I had a placement.

I knew about the museum before I became a volunteer. I had been on visits and really enjoyed them. I come in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I work with the learning and Access team. Every two weeks on a Wednesday I work in the town. In the winter I will be working in the pit Cottages. On a Tuesday I work with the school groups that come in. I like working with the yr 1s and yr 2s. I usually work with them in the pit cottages where they have to learn how to do the chores that Victorian children used to do and what it was like in 1913.

I sometimes do admin work in the office which is sorting out the evaluations and sending them to schools. On a Wednesday I work with the other side of the learning and access team. I sometimes search for photos on the beamish photo archive, Photocopying and laminating. This is when I usually help out on store tours and visit groups. I work with a lot of adults too.

In the town I costume demonstrate mostly in the Co-op, the dentists, or Miss Smith's the music teacher's house. In the pit cottages I help with the baking. I love doing all these jobs. One summer holiday I took mum and dad for a visit and they enjoyed it too.

In the Beamish stores at the resource building I really like the knitting sheaths when I help out on store tours I like looking at them. I love Beamish and I like working here. I feel very lucky to be able to come in to see the things that visitors don't usually get to see.
