Video transcript

In the 1950s my mam used to take me and my sister to Thompson’s Park in the summer. We would go to the swings first and after a while we would have a slow walk down to the rose garden to have our picnic which was jam and bread and a bottle of water. On the way we had to pass the nursery and we saw all the babies in their prams which were big Silver Cross and I thought they were great. My mam used to say ‘all those babies have money’ because it was a private nursery and all the children that were staying there were doctor’s children or teacher’s. I said ‘one day I will have one of those prams for my children’. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the money for that kind so I had a smaller one. Then 28 years later we had the gift of a granddaughter and her dad bought her a doll’s Silver Cross twin pram and I think it’s grand. It was worth waiting for. I love to go and give it a wash and polish and maybe one day our youngest granddaughter will be allowed to take it for a walk – but only with me!
