My first Boys' Brigade camp was in Summer 2008 at the Mill in Nidderdale. It was
great fun! On the first day we made a capsule to protect an egg. We fired the
capsule over the lake with a giant catapult. Unfortunately, our team didn't make it.
Our group leader, Nick, woke us up each morning at 8 o'clock by whacking a pan
with a wooden spoon. Our first day was packed with activities. We set of to Brimham
rocks where we climbed and explored all the rocks. We went to Nidderdale sports to
play in the pool and play badminton. That night the company section went on a walk.
It rained, and so we got soaked.
We started the next day by going to Stump cross caverns. I was scared because it
was dark and we didn't have a torch to see the thing which supposedly lived in the
caverns. Afterwards we found out it was just a big joke played by Nick. Then it was
Hot Chocolate, supper and eventually bed.
Another early start and a busy day ahead. We were split up into 2 groups, green and
red. First I went canoeing where I learnt to paddle forwards and backwards and how
to capsize properly, I got very wet. Then we went to How Stean Gorge where we
adventured through the rocks, made our way through the pitch black cave and learnt
about Tom Taylor.
The last day of camp 2008. After breakfast, we started the day by a final tidying of
the bedrooms. We packed all of our bags into the minibus and set off for
Wensleydale cheese centre in Hawes for lunch. We came home in the minibus and
arrived at the church hall at 3:20 where we unpacked the minibus and returned home
safely. My team was awarded with the camp cup because we won most of the
activities. I was chuffed.
I'm looking forward to camp Summer Camp 2009 - where hopefully we will hang on
to the camp cup!
