Video transcript

Now, is clutter crowded confusion......or could it be a confused mass? It could even be to scatter objects about in an untidy manner, maybe a very untidy heap. Or is it something deeper?   Why do we need to surround ourselves with things? Is it because we want to be keepers of "chattels”? Are these objects emotionally close to us, or are they there because we didn’t have them as a child? So many permutations, so many questions....all I know is that it is a uncontrollable urge!

Why have I amassed literally thousands of books? I will never read them all ...but they’re there! Why have I indulged in "storing" ceramics? Maybe one day they might be valuable, they won’t be - but they’re there. Maybe I will wake up one morning with six arms.....hooray! I’ll be able to play the three guitars I’ve got – all at once! My 1300 packs of playing cards are all in the loft, packed in suitcases, bags - no one can see them - no one can touch them but I know they’re there. Are they collectables or are they clutter?  Both words begin with C.

But enough is enough...! Its time to move on, so I can move around!!  I will get rid…but where to and to whom??. Maybe I will donate my items to museums, who are masters of amassing clutter...but their clutter is controlled, organised and regimented, and because of that  it is magically transformed into interesting items of wonder.

There are very fine lines between collecting, clutter, and hoarding, and I’m really afraid of realising and making a brand new line.....what comes after hoarding? Is it a medical condition, or do I need to be conditioned medically? I must cease! I feel so refreshed that my mind is made up! I’m freeeeeeeeee.!

Bye the bye one my way home tonight, I must pop into the charity shop on Northumberland Street , I’ve just spotted two bits of Maling Pottery, they are slightly cracked and broken but they’re collectable...................

I really know what this fella is talking about! I'm exactly the same!Posted on 08/03/2010 at 12:57:29
