Video transcript

When my Mum was my age she had to go into hospital to have her tonsils out but unlike today she couldn't have her Mum to stay with her. My Gran used to visit her for an hour every afternoon and she was on her own the rest of the time. The first afternoon visiting my Gran brought her magazines and sweets but best of all she brought her a costume doll. That one doll was the start of a collection that was to span years. She had dolls from Spain, London and even Germany, her brother bought her this doll when he was in the army. The dolls had their own cabinet and were proudly displayed until my Mum reached her teens and considered herself too old for dolls. Then they were all boxed and put in the garage to gather dust. Now I have taken over from my Mum and my gran now buys me costume dolls from her travels and I like my Mum will love them until they too end up in a box in a dusty garage.
