Video transcript

Have you ever felt that panic? The kind that turns your stomach upside down and makes your heart feel like its going to pound out of your chest.

The cause of this panic was a much loved battered looking bunny whose appearance deceived his age. A gift from aunty Donna, bought two years ago when Imogen was born. They had great adventures together Imogen and bunny. She took him everywhere. Visiting family, doing the shopping, to the park, in the garden, riding her bike. He sat beside her while she was on the potty and waited patiently for her while she had her bath. But most important of all he was her sleeping companion.

I understood the love she had for this stinky old stuffed toy. When I was a little girl I had a teddy bear called Bobby. He too was loved to the point of thread bare destruction. I still have him now, thirty six years later. He sits on Imogen’s bedroom windowsill in an attempt to get her to love him as much as I did. We’ve had a few near misses before but he always turned up eventually.

But this was the day she almost lost him for good. We retraced out steps and returned to all the places we’d been. We drove to both grandmas, to the park, the supermarket, uncle Darren’s, aunty Shirl’s and every room in the house was turned upside down all in pursuit for the beloved bunny. After what seemed like and eternity and lots of tears from Imogen we stopped for a rest and hoped he’d turn up or someone would find him. We even started making posters to put up around the local area.

Later that day I decided to do some washing. Imogen helped me to empty the washing basket. And to our absolute delight there he was amongst the dirty clothes. I tried to think how he’d got there but could only put it down to me telling Imogen how much bunny stank.

After an overjoyed Imogen gave bunny a good smothering I distracted her with some sweets then bundled the precious bunny into the washing machine and the wait began again.
