Video transcript

It’s brilliant being a carer because I love helping people.

Helping my nana at home is really good, it teaches me responsibilities. My nana had cancer in 2007 so I moved in with her to look after her. My mam lives right next door so if we need any other help my mams right there.

When my nana had cancer we got really close. Now that I’m living with my nana we are closer than ever. My outside life not looking after my nana is just the same as people who don’t look after anybody.

Just after my nana had cancer I joined a group called Gateshead Crossroads Caring For Young Carers. My school nurse informed me about this.

I never found myself as a young career before. I felt really excited joining a new group. This was my first time joining a group with more than 300 children, this meant the more trips I go on I will know more people as go. This will overcome my shyness. I love Crossroads, more trips means the more I love it.

Living with my nana is the best thing I can do.
