Video transcript

I live in East Shore village in Seaham. Seaham is an old mining town. My house was built on what used to be Vane Tempest Colliery.

My great grandad worked down the mines. He was at Dawdon Colliery and worked as a miner for 51 years.  He also got a medal for it.  There were only 5 people who ever worked as long as my great grandad.

There aren't any mines in Seaham now. Me and my brother had not been born before the mines were closed. Many people in Seaham worked down the mines but people now work in loads of different places. My mam works in a call centre in Sunderland and my dad works for a mini bus company in Stanley. Before my granddad retired he worked in a factory.  Now all the mines are closed but we still have our granddad to tell us what happened.

It's nice to hear about such a strong bond between family members.Posted on 29/10/2009 at 03:39:48

Uno's a great game for the family - our kids often want to play what they call 'after school club rules' - these are a lot more complicated and I always seem to end up picking up most of the cards!Posted on 01/11/2009 at 01:24:58
