This is a story about a new home for me. I was awakened early one morning in the cottage homes and told I was getting a new mam and dad and family. I got a train from Darlington to Sunderland and I was taken by the lady, Miss Gibson, to the house that was to be my new home with Mr and Mrs Catcheside. The house was full of people that came to welcome me into their family. I remember we were just in time for tea. I had a boiled egg and I had to ask my new mam how to eat it. She showed me how to knock the top off the egg and then with soldiers dip in the egg to get all the yellow out. And then the rest of the egg with a spoon. I loved this family and after a while I was visiting my Aunt Charlotte, she told me I was born into the house I came to live in with my new family. I thought ‘a million to one chance, I’ve come back to the house I was born in’.
