My name is Graeme Fairley and I'm here to tell you about my trip to America,
Kissimmee, Florida. It all started when I was playing golf at Seaton Carew golf course. I
met up with my friends. They are both professional golfers so I have a handicap of 15;
they are both on scratch so golf's relatively new to me.
We were chatting to which we planned trip to America. It was October 1995. The flight
was nine hours long. When we got there we hired a car, an American one. I was
amazed at the road system there, they drive on the right-hand side and the roads are
much wider than ours here in the UK, plus the buildings were bigger.
Once we found our hotel, we planned where we were going to eat and play golf. In
America they have drive-ins where you get your food, these are big places to which you
can go in and eat as much as you want for a certain amount of money.
The days we played golf were the best. As we got familiar with the roads and districts,
we found various golf courses. Some were championship courses, some were standard
courses. They all had golf buggies so when we played we hired one. It was too hot to
walk round the golf courses. It was also dangerous because alligators were strolling
around the courses. They say certain gators have eaten dogs and even humans.
Playing golf, as we all know, is a frustrating game. I didn't play too badly, just lost a few
balls. My friends played much better, they had the advantage. On the night time we
would go for a drink at Old Town Kissimmee, where we had various shows, also
Pleasure Island and Disney Land and Epcot Centre, where we boogied at discos with all
the women.
By this time the two weeks were over. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I would
recommend it to anybody. We packed our bags and headed to the airport for our nine
hour journey home.
