Video transcript

This brings back memories of my early nursing years in the 60s and 70s. The invalid feeding cup was used to give Complan , Horlicks or even just a cup of tea to a frail patient who was unable to sit up properly.  This let them take fluids without spilling their drink so helping to prevent any more distress. I also remember the uniform and how senior staff disapproved of our length of skirt.  The fashion of the day was short skirts so we all tried to wear our uniforms as short as possible as so being told to lengthen our skirts. I remember we still wore stockings and if my suspender broke I remember  using an aspirin to replace the lost button. The collar on all our uniforms was detachable, white and starched and this sometimes made our necks sore. We all learned many things, had sad times and great times and a good social life that we still remember. And the friendships  found then continue to this day.
