Every time I see a robin, it has a special connotation. The story behind this special
little bird goes like this.
In January 2003, my beloved Mam was diagnosed with cancer. She truly believed
that she would overcome this terrible disease and would be healthy for my wedding.
We began to plan my wedding together, happily discussing what we would wear, and
who would attend. All the lovely mother and daughter things that brought us so much
happiness.
However, it became apparent that my lovely Mam was not going to win her battle.
With great courage and dignity, she told me and my fiancé, Dominic, that she was
not going to make it to our wedding. She said that we had to look out for a robin on
our wedding day and that would be her, watching over us.
Sadly, on June 5th 2003, my beautiful Mam passed away. We were left utterly
heartbroken. We put our plans on hold as we were too upset to go ahead with the
wedding.
However, in May 2005 we decided we would go ahead with the wedding as it was
one of Mam's dying wishes. After the ceremony we walked around the gardens and,
to our astonishment, sitting on the lawn, was a robin! It made our day so special.
Now, every time I see a robin, I know that my Mam is sending me a message to tell
me she is always with me and my family.
Claire's story is in remembrance of her mum who died and left a sign that she would always be with her. Posted on 12/08/2009 at 11:46:31
