Video transcript

Thinking about Christmas makes me very happy. I remember spending Christmas with me family in Ellesmere Port, especially my 3 children. I remember one year in particular when they were 8, 11, and 12 years olds. I have one daughter and two sons.

On Christmas Eve we would always buy a new video to watch together as a family. After the video we would send children to bed to wait for Santa to come. Once they were asleep I would wrap their presents and line them up on the sofa with their names on. I would go to bed as well.

On Christmas day the kids would always wake up very early. They would come into the bedroom at 6 o’clock and jump on the bed to wake us up. They were very excited, they would jump up and down and ask 'has he been?’. I would answer 'lets go down and find out'

The whole family would go downstairs together, the kids running into the living room to find their presents. They would rush in and start opening the presents I had carefully wrapped, wrapping paper would be flying through the air followed with excited cries as they opened each toy. I loved to see the look on their faces, they were full of smiles, happy and excited.

They would play with their toys until 10 o’clock, then we would get dressed and go to visit my mother in law, their Nan. At Nan’s house we would have a drink and watch the kids open their presents from her. They would be full of smiles all over again.

We would head back home at 11:30 to cook the dinner. It was my job to cook the Christmas dinner. I enjoyed cooking it, I was very calm in the kitchen. We would all eat together around the table at once. This was a special occasion. The kids would talk about all of their new toys and games.

My kids are older now, but I have many happy memories of them at Christmas time, their happy and smiling faces.
