Video transcript

We heard about this explosion. Annfield Plain in 1947. I was preparing to go to work. My dad was at work during a shift. I think it must have been on the news, I think it must have been through the wireless, through the news. There was quite a few sort of injured so, therefore, the ones that had been on shift had to stay behind to help bring the injured out. I don't know whether it was a build up of gas or something like that, I think that must have happened. I think they used to take, I'm not sure, I think they used to take canaries or something down the mine to find if there was gas around. So I waited to see if anything had happened with my father but there wasn't, he'd managed.
