Growing up I was always dog mad, and I mean mad. I love how they look, how they
feel, the trust and unconditional love they show for you. Anyway, every year my mam
and dad would ask for a Christmas list, every year the same thing – a dog or nothing.
From being really, really small that’s all I ever wanted. When I was 13 they finally
gave in. It was near the 6 week holidays and I came in from school and there she
was. Tiny, fluffy, no tail, spotty little dog. I was in love. She had a brown face and my
dad said she looked like she had no trousers on. Her parents were both pedigrees
but she was classed as a reject because her markings were all wrong. It didn’t
matter for me though, I took her everywhere with me. She was even at my wedding.
Unfortunately, just after my second child was born, she had to be put to sleep. But I
never will forget her. I have a dog like her now and my kids love her but I wish dogs
lived a lot longer and they would have met her. I will never forget her, as they say –
you never forget your first love.
