I did two tests to make sure that I was pregnant, they both came back positive. I was
so scared, shocked, and I cried.
The biggest challenge I have faced was how to tell people. I was thinking what am I
going to say to my boyfriend? He knew that something was the matter, so when he
asked, I told him I was pregnant. He was just standing there saying 'are you sure?',
so I showed him the two tests. He went into shock.
The next challenge was telling our parents. There never seemed like a good time.
Things got in the way like getting ready for the boxing show. I wanted to tell his
family straight away but he told me not to, so I didn't. When we got home I still
wanted to tell his family, but I couldn't so I left it to him.
When I went back home he told his parents. His parents were shocked and mad at
the same time. All his family were shaking their heads, shouting and screaming at
him.
When I was at home, just back from college, I sat down and my sister asked me
what was wrong, so I told her that I was pregnant. She gave me a cuddle and told
me everything was going to be ok. I asked her to tell mam. She did. My mam was
fine, she told me 'don't be scared'.
But I was scared. I was worried about how I was going to cope, this would change
my life forever.
The next few months were great - I loved going for my scans and hearing the heart
beat. I had a feeling that I was going to have a little boy, and I was right. He was
born on 17 May 2009.
Since he was born we have had our ups and downs; tiredness, sickness, and
sleepless nights. But there are more ups than downs, my boy smiles, gurgles to
himself, pulling funny faces. I like going to visit my family, playing with his cousins
and friends.
I wouldn't have thought a year ago that my life would have changed so much - but I
wouldn't change a thing.
